Clark University’s Physical Plant department seeks to fill the position of Maintenance Technician. Reporting to the HVAC/R Supervisor of Physical Plant, the successful candidate will be responsible for preventive maintenance within the HVAC/R department. The duties of this position are to maintain and repair heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including all related auxiliary systems. In addition to preventive maintenance and repairs, the Maintenance Technician will be responsible for cleaning mechanical spaces and equipment, maintaining required stock, and record keeping of performed maintenance. The ability to learn how to use computers (Building Management Systems) for checking all HVAC systems. The candidate must be energetic, self-sufficient, and have knowledge of the basics in refrigeration theory, electrical systems, and mechanical operations for a wide range of equipment. Applicants must be customer service oriented and skilled in safe working procedures. Candidates must be available for on-call and after-hour emergencies. Duties and Responsibilities The Maintenance Technician will have a range of responsibilities that include providing preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment, such as changing filters, greasing and oiling equipment, adjusting belt tensions, replacing bearings, changing motors, troubleshooting problems, and facilitating their repair. S/he will maintain clean and organized mechanical spaces and maintain all required materials needed to perform service on HVAC equipment, keep records on the equipment maintenance program and provide assistance to all members of the HVAC/R staff. The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the operation and preventative maintenance of air compressors and will perform other duties as assigned. The Maintenance Technician will provide emergency support whenever necessary and will share coverage on a 24/7 schedule. The working hours for this job will be Monday through Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Qualifications The successful candidate will have excellent organizational/computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft office, excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, will have the ability to work as a team member and will be self-motivated. S/he will be a craftsman at the trade of HVAC/R, with the ability to read wiring schematics and troubleshoot electrical issues, as well having the knowledge of building automation systems for HVAC/R equipment. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in troubleshooting steam, hydronic and air heating systems, and have an understanding of HVAC/R system design intent and control sequences. Applicants must have a high school diploma with a minimum of 5 years combined experience in the HVAC/R field and/or technical school, a valid Massachusetts driver’s license and must possess and maintain an EPA refrigerant certification. S/he must be able to lift 50-lbs, bend, stoop and twist on a daily basis and must be available for on-call after-hours emergencies.
