GRAPHIC DESIGN SPECIALIST
Duties: Working across the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy's multiple online educational initiatives-including Penn's first online Master's degree-the Graphic Design Specialist will lead the development of an educationally effective visual identity for the program. Integral to the position is the ability to review recorded lecture videos and source material, and then, through visual design, turn that into engaging, clear, and memorable educational content. To do so, the position must 1) synthesize course concepts to create multimedia content that clearly communicates faculty expertise and supports learning objectives through best practices in design and online education, while meeting accessibility needs and copyright requirements; 2) lead discussions with numerous faculty members (including senior leadership) and the course development team to create effective visual strategies for online pedagogy; and 3) lead strategy and implementation for the design of digital and print marketing materials that engage prospective learners and reports that convey program outcomes to senior-level audiences. The successful candidate must respond to various styles and strengths of a cross-disciplinary faculty while adhering to standards and deadlines for multiple simultaneous projects. The position will also train Department staff and student workers on techniques and tools for maintaining the visual identity. Experience working with higher education faculty and with video producers is essential; note: this is not a video post-production job.
The minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and 3 to 5 years of related professional experience with graphic design in an educational setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working with various stakeholders including university faculty and video producers from product conception through design and development.
Experience creating visual materials that aligns with learning objectives for high-quality online courses.
Experience creating original designs with Adobe products and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Experience working both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
Experience working as a graphic designer in a medical school or with health policy or medical ethics professionals.
Knowledge of evidence-based best practices in online education, with a commitment to continuous learning and contribution to the field.
Familiarity with copyright and intellectual property standards for course development.
Knowledge of ADA requirements and 508 standard in online course delivery.
