Posting Information: The Director is the chief academic and administrative officer of the SON and reports directly to the Dean of CHHS. The position demands an energetic leader who is passionate about teaching/learning, scholarship, students, and all aspects of Nursing practice. Western Carolina University (WCU) is a dynamic, regional comprehensive, fast-growing member of the 17-campus University of North Carolina system. Located in Cullowhee, North Carolina, WCU is situated in a beautiful valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 52 miles west of Asheville and adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Cullowhee and nearby Sylva offer real small-town charm while big cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, Knoxville and Greenville are just a few hours away. From its 600-acre Cullowhee locations, through programs in nearby Biltmore Park and Cherokee, at various community colleges across the state, and via online and distance education delivery, the University serves more than 10,000 students and has approximately 500 full-time faculty members. The College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) is comprised of five academic Departments and/or Schools including the School of Nursing, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorder, the Department of Physical Therapy, the Department of Social Work, and the School of Health Sciences. Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: Interested candidates must possess a doctoral degree (with a minimum of one graduate degree in Nursing), administrative experience, and a scholarly record that merits appointment as an associate/full professor with eligibility for tenure. Applicants must be licensed as a registered nurse in the state of North Carolina.
Preferred Qualifications: Desired qualifications include evidence of exemplary leadership in supporting and facilitating teaching and scholarship; excellent management, supervisory, and budgetary skills; superior communication skills and an ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies internal and external to WCU. Experience in obtaining and managing external funding is desirable.
