The Department of Community Health Behavior and Education in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health (JPHCOPH) invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor.

Within this setting, JPHCOPH offers the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH), Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA), and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degrees. The MPH program has five emphasis areas: Biostatistics, Community Health, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, and Health Policy & Management. The Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree has emphases in Community Health Education and Behavior, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Public Health Leadership. The Department of Community Health Behavior and Education offers the Community Health Education and Behavior concentration in the DrPH and the Community Health emphasis in the MPH degrees.

Position Description. Reporting to the Department Chair, the Assistant Professor will be required to contribute to departmental and college teaching and develop an extramurally funded research program. The successful candidate is expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses; serve on dissertation committees; provide service to the community; mentor students; serve on department, college, and university committees; engage in scholarship/creative activity leading to presentations at professional meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals; and be actively involved in professional associations and outreach activities. The position is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned doctorate degree by August 1, 2017 in Community Health/Health Education or a closely related field
  • Commitment to teaching and academic program development that is consistent with the College's vision and mission
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the College and University
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated strong quantitative methodological skills
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Graduate public health training from or teaching/work experience in a CEPH accredited school or program
  • At least 18 graduate semester hours in Community Health/Health Education
  • CHES/MCHES certified
