WORK PERFORMED:
 
Responsible for using working knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and American with Disabilities Amendment Act (2008), and compliance regulations to maintain database programs and supervising data entry of data including the development, maintenance and analysis of systems for monitoring students as they progress through the SDAO process by:

  • Analyzing documentation submitted to the SDAO from students with Deafness or Hard of Hearing and Blindness or Low Vision disabilities registered in Trinity College, Pratt School of Engineering, Divinity School, Duke Eye Center, Fuqua School of Business, Graduate School, Nicholas School of the Environment, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, Physician Assistance Program, Sanford School of Public Policy, School of Law, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Talent Identification Program and Durham Regional-Watts School of Nursing.
  • Analyzing SDAO Consultant Reports, drawing conclusions and making recommendations to the SDAO director.

Responsible for using working knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and American with Disabilities Amendment Act (2008), and compliance regulations to meet with Students with Deafness or Hard of Hearing and Blindness or Low Vision disabilities and implement accommodations.   Responsible for using working knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and American with Disabilities Amendment Act (2008), and compliance regulations as well as maintaining state-of-the-art expertise of rapidly developing field of assistive technology in order to maintain the Assistive Technology Lending Library including registering new equipment, overseeing check-out procedures, review new and cutting-edge assistive technology, recommending purchases.  

  • Coordinate Assistive Technology software implementation for employees and students
  • Train employees and students of Assistive Technology equipment and/or software
  • Acquire and prepare textbooks to be put in alternative format
  • Scan and edit materials in alternative format
  • Coordinate interpreting, real time captioning and other services for students and employees who are deaf and hard of hearing
  • Prepare text in Braille for students with visual impairments
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date procedural manuals
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors

Responsible for using working knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and American with Disabilities Amendments Act (2009), and ADA Standards for Accessible Design (2010) and compliance regulations to assist ADA Facilities Program Director with the ADA Facilities program.  

  • Assist ADA Facilities Program Director with surveying new construction and existing buildings on Health side and Campus side
  • Responsible for date entry of health surveys
  • Responsible for input and maintain up-to-date accuracy of Campus surveys
  • Create and maintain reports to analyze and monitor data.
  • Responsible for using working knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and American with Disabilities Amendments Act (2008), and the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Accessibility Initiative to test websites of departments within Duke University.
  • Responsible for using working knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and American with Disabilities Amendment Act (2008), and compliance regulations to coordinate the collection of student data and develop reports that show student enrollment, accommodation use, and other pertinent information on a monthly basis.  To analyze data, monitor and investigate trends and recommend and implement modifications to improve the effectiveness of the SDAO by maintaining statistical reports and compiling reports for students who request consideration for reasonable accommodations.
  • Participate in the development of SDAO policies, procedures and documentation guidelines, for implementing policies and procedures and identifying and advising Director and staff of administrative problems with the implementation.
  • Responsible for the preparation of budget requests for SDAO operating budget and Assistive Technology, verifying, reconciling expenditure of budgeted funds, maintaining statistical data and compiling reports.
  • Responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining Disability Management Systems website.
  • Responsible for using working knowledge of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and American with Disabilities Amendment Act (2008), and compliance regulations to coordinate the collection of random draw monitoring of students who have contacted the SDAO files to ensure continued compliance with program access obligations.
  • Responsible for representing Disability Management Systems on behalf of Duke University/Health Systems by attending professional meetings such as AHEAD, assistive technology expos, as well as committees within the University.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
