Archives and Special Collections Librarian
SCAD seeks an archives and special collections librarian to coordinate all aspects of the Jen Library’s distinctive archives and special collections area, which includes the prominent Don Bluth Collection of Animation, artists’ books, and a wide variety of other unique and rare materials.
In this role, you will develop collaborative and positive working relationships. You will also deliver instruction, classes and tours, and provide reference, research and outreach services that support student learning. You will promote awareness of the archives and special collections resources to diverse audiences of SCAD students and faculty. This position is also responsible for the selection, acquisition, preservation, organization, and cataloging of the archives and special collections materials, as well as coordination of associated digitization projects. In alignment with current standards and best practices, you will describe archival collections and perform MARC cataloging.
The ideal candidate has a flexible and creative approach to work and exercises sound judgment and problem-solving, with superior verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. The ability to thrive within a complex and dynamic environment while balancing day-to-day oversight with longer-term planning of archives and special collections is essential.
− ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree, with program emphasis in archives or special collections theory and methods preferred
− Two or more years of experience working in an archives or special collections library
− Knowledge of current and emerging technologies for archives and special collections management, access and promotion
− Education or experience in an art or design subject taught at SCAD strongly preferred
− Experience with digitization and related metadata, preservation and project management practices preferred
