I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

GW's Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) seeks a Senior Accounting Associate to assist with administrative and financial matters on externally funded projects. The Senior Accounting Associate is familiar with social science research projects. This position is responsible for the monthly reconciliation of all funded projects, processing project expenditures, assistance with budget projections and budget development and working on matters of hiring, budget management and reporting in alignment with University procedures and accounting practices.

Responsibilities include:

Maintains and reconciles grant records and balances for individual grants. Ensures that funds are available for expenditures and monitors grant funds/account balances.

Reviews expenditure categories to ensure that costs on invoices and financial reports conform to award terms of the grant agreement as well as other applicable governmental rules and regulations and institutional policies including but not limited to cost sharing, program income, etc.

Inputs and reconciles financial transactions in financial systems.

Review and reconcile transactions against University Budget Reports.

Responsible for processing and applying all grant related tuition awards at GSEHD.

Reconciles the tuition awards against financials after posting.

Provides backup documentation to support amounts billed when required and update trackers accordingly.

Responsible for expense tracking and provides spend projections on a bi-weekly basis to Principle Investigators to assist in the fiscal oversight of awards.

Assists in analyzing, maintaining, controlling and reporting accounting and financial information.

Responsible for completing various post award efforts on a basic portfolio of awards, including but not limited to financial reporting, billing and facilitating the closeout of awards with the School Research Administrator (SRA) for GCAS and the funded project sponsors.

Reviews outstanding encumbrances and unbilled subcontract balances. Coordinates with the Schools SRA who works with appropriate post-award OVPR counterparts to resolve issues.

Responsible for initiating and maintaining personnel actions within the Research workflow, including but not limited to, coordinating the creation of position descriptions with PI's, hiring temporary research staff, hiring student staff, coordinating the payment of honorariums, etc.

Performs all other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a degree in accounting or finance, have 2+ years of experience working as a member of a grants, finance or accounting team, be able to provide evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills and have knowledge of Uniform Grant Guidance and Compliance procedures regarding Federal funding. Experience in an Institution of Higher Education is preferred.
