Position Summary:

Gettysburg College invites applications for a one-year visiting faculty position in Latin American Literature at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor ( beginning August 2017. 


Candidates should have a broad background in Latin American literary and cultural studies; specialization within that field should complement the Department’s current areas of specialization. Desirable specializations may include: Latin American theater and performance; Mexican and Central American literature; among others. The successful candidate should have a commitment to teaching in the liberal arts tradition and show clear potential for scholarly engagement. The Department seeks candidates who have experience and interest in working with and supporting heritage speakers and underrepresented students. The teaching load is 3/3 and includes all levels of Spanish language and Latin American literature and culture. Native or near-native fluency required. Ph.D. preferred; ABD considered.

A cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a statement of teaching philosophy must be submitted.  The statement of teaching philosophy must include the candidate’s experience, ability to design and assess learning outcomes, and some brief descriptions of potential course offerings.  In addition, applicants should submit the names and email addresses of three professional references.  After the search committee’s preliminary selection of candidates, professional references will be contacted by Gettysburg College via email to submit letters of recommendation electronically.  At least one individual should be able to speak to the candidate’s teaching effectiveness.
