JOB PURPOSE: Under the guidance of senior management, the Spend Management team manages the development and execution of sustainable and innovative supply strategies including programs and products. These will be delivered through collaborative engagement across seven schools and seventeen non-academic units with the approximate spend of $2.2B. Spend Category Manager's key responsibility is to manage both existing and new verticals identified within the framework Spend Management Group. The primary objective for the individual in this role will be to develop a deep understanding of the academic and non-academic needs, direction, and underlying processes. This role will be required to deliver outcomes and to proactively implement solutions to respond to corresponding pain points, then assuring user satisfaction by utilizing our spend management services and methodology. This role requires a combination of proven subject matter expertise in specific categories such as Medical/Lab, Print Services, Contingent Labor, Chemicals & Gas, or Office Supplies and experience in procurement alongside having strong customer relationship skills.


CORE DUTIES*:
  • Recommend and execute Spend Management plan/strategy, including relationship management, portfolio development and marketing, to meet business objectives.
  • Define and conduct analysis and make recommendations regarding the direction of the Spend Management portfolio.
  • Assess prospective clients, plan and execute effective strategies to meet product/program goals by utilizing analytics, best practices, cost and savings estimates to facilitate decision making.
  • Deliver an experience that leads to high customer satisfaction and advocacy for the program.
  • Implement improvements based on analysis which improve processes, programs and business across the department.
  • Be a liaison, represent Procurement and Business Affairs to campus clients and key suppliers.
  • Strengthen relationships to ensure supplier and spend management initiatives meet the needs of campus.
  • Build partnerships and engage groups that participate in program or product delivery.
  • Manage vendor relationships.
  • May supervise others. * - Other duties may also be assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Education & Experience:
    Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience. Higher Education experience a plus.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated project/program management skills, including the ability to influence without authority and the ability to manage multiple projects/programs simultaneously.
  • The ability to work effectively with decision-makers across many levels of the organization.
  • Experience developing new business opportunities.
  • Advanced communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal audiences and client groups.
  • Demonstrated experience with various marketing elements (e.g. pricing, audience, channels, communication).
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • The ability to work as an individual contributor as well as part of a multi-functional team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable and credible in dealing with campus clients, suppliers, and business units.
  • Demonstrated experience with various verticals such as Med/Lab, Print Services, Office Supplies, Travel and Contingent Labor/HR a plus. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
