Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead Winthrop University’s Department of World Languages and Cultures’ K-12 Education Certification Program and supervise the department’s teacher education candidates
  • Teach four courses each semester to include courses in foreign language teaching methods, supervision; Spanish language, literature and culture at all levels (undergraduate); and general education core, including Winthrop’s interdisciplinary Human Experience course
  • Advise all foreign language teacher education candidates; coordinate needed curriculum changes within the departmental structure; review transcripts for MAT and MAT Accelerated programs; recruit students into the World Languages and Cultures and Foreign Languages Education programs
  • Facilitate edTPA assessment and utilize Livetext for assessment data; participate in meetings of Teacher Education faculty (in the College of Education and the College of Arts & Sciences)
  • Serve on department, college, and university committees
  • Work with area K-12 in-service teachers through internships, professional development, and program initiatives
  • Engage in professional stewardship activities and scholarly or creative activity as appropriate for the position
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Spanish and current K-12 or secondary certification required; ABD will be considered for appointment at the Instructor rank; Ph.D. required for appointment at Assistant Professor rank
  • Evidence of teaching excellence in a university environment

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.Ed. in foreign language education or related field a plus
  • Expertise in Linguistics and/or Second Language Acquisition preferred; ideal candidate will have at least two years teaching experience at the K-12 level
  • Experience supervising pre-service K-12 Foreign Languages Education candidates is preferred

Work Environment: This position requires daily contact with students, faculty, and staff on campus. Additionally, the successful candidate will work with the outside community, local public schools, other universities, and international, schools, companies, and partners.
