Position Summary

The mission of the University Teaching and Learning Commons (UTLC) is to enhance UNCG's academic culture by providing our diverse faculty community with innovative research-based programs and services that promote effective teaching and cultivate student academic success. The Teaching Innovations Office is the central faculty development arm of the UTLC and provides university-wide support for a diverse teaching community.

The TIO provides: workshops and certificates in teaching areas, teaching institutes, lectures in effective teaching pedagogy, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) resources and support, community-building events and programs, instructional support, and support for the Residential Colleges Office (RCO) and Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity Office (URSCO).

The Associate Director of the UTLC-TIO is responsible for oversight of the TIO and all initiatives housed there. The Associate Director of the UTLC-TIO collaborates regularly with the Associate Director of the UTLC-RCO and the Director of the URSCO to fulfill the mission of the UTLC.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in progress with at least three years of teaching experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and facilitate relationships with faculty and partners across a university.
  • Experience in faculty development.
  • Experience with supervising others.
  • Experience working with faculty on incorporating pedagogically effective practices in the classroom.
  • Experience with course development.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team and work independently.
  • Demonstrated expertise (or developing expertise) in an established area of teaching best practice.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Terminal degree with five years of teaching experience in higher education.
  • Teaching experience across varied course and classroom classifications.
  • Experience in a faculty development unit.
  • Experience with the curriculum process and instructional design.
