Associate Director of Strategic Analytics and Institutional Research
The Office of Institutional Research Assessment and Planning at Appalachian State University seeks applications for the Associate Director of Strategic Analytics and Institutional Research. This position serves the University by providing dynamic data reporting and analysis services. This position is an expert in the knowledge of university data as well as data typically used in postsecondary education. This position will assist with furthering the University’s Information Analytics efforts. This position provides key information to assist with institutional policy and program decisions with the knowledge and vision that changes in technology will guide the display and reporting of data now and in the future.
This position interacts with many campus units, as well as external agencies, including UNC- General Administration. This position most often interacts with IRAP colleagues and direct reports; Academic Affairs units, particularly Enrollment Management (and its units); and Information Analytics within ITS.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Director of Strategic Analytics and IR manages data and reporting projects, conducts statistical analyses, and reports information. Using sound practices of data analysis and visualization, this position provides information solutions with an understanding of best practices and business intelligence. This position develops interactive visualizations that address a variety of questions and audiences. This position uses SAS, SQL, Tableau, and SPSS, as well as other BI or data analysis tools to carry out many of the statistical reporting requirements. This position gives presentations about University data to various committees and entities. This position works with Information Analytics to develop dynamic reporting solutions for the University. This position supervises two analysts.
- Masters Degree in higher education, public administration, social science, statistics, or related field of
- 3-5 years of experience in an institutional research office with a high level of responsibility, or increased responsibility over
- Expert knowledge of relational databases and the ability to manage and analyze data from various
- Demonstrated proficiency with SAS, SQL, SPSS, Excel, Tableau, and/or other similar statistical and data file building and visualization reporting
- Demonstrated SAS or SQL programming
- Experience with enterprise Business Intelligence
- Experience working in or with an IT
