Assistant Professor of Religious Studies (Global Christianity)

The Department of Religious Studies at the College of Charleston invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professorship in the field of Global Christianity, to begin August 16, 2017. We seek a candidate with a PhD degree in Religious Studies or a related discipline, with a broad knowledge of Christian traditions and specialization in one or more of the following geographic areas: Africa, Asia, Latin America, and/or the Caribbean. Candidates should be familiar with theoretical issues in the study of religion, with some preference for training in ethnography and fieldwork; also, some focus on race and ethnic studies, gender and sexuality studies, and/or post-colonial studies is desirable. The successful candidate will teach an introduction to Christianity, specialized courses in their particular area of study, and introductory comparative courses (including coverage of non-Abrahamic traditions). Please note that this position is not in New Testament, Theology or Missiology.
Faculty in the Religious Studies Department normally teach a 3/3 load, with 2 preps each semester. Faculty in religious studies often contribute to the College's First-Year Experience program, and may also choose to teach in the Honors College and/or develop Study Abroad or Away courses.
A PhD by August 2017 is required. Deadline is Thursday, December 1, 2016.
