About Greenfield Community College:

Greenfield Community College is located in the beautiful and historic Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, between the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and the fertile farmland of the Connecticut River watershed. GCC is a public community college of approximately 2,200 students. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Provides students with an introduction to the philosophy and principles of the outdoor skill or, if course is for training instructors, introduces instructor competencies and curriculum for certification in the relevant field course. Topics covered include hazard evaluation, equipment selection, safety systems, technical knowledge and skills development, and decision-making and judgment. Instructors accompany students on extended overnight trips to out-of-state wilderness locations. Attends a limited number of faculty meetings.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires one or more of the following certifications:
  • Whitewater Canoe Instructor
  • Flat Water Canoe Instructor
  • Coastal Sea Kayak Instructor
  • Technical Rock Climbing Instructor
  • Indoor Climbing Wall Instructor
  • Challenge Course Instructor
  • Wilderness Travel Instructor
  • Nordic Ski Instructor
  • Leave No Trace Trainer
  • Avalanche Safety
  • Wilderness First Responder
Collegiate teaching experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successful community college teaching experience
  • Commitment to the mission of the community college
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting domestic diversity and/or global multiculturalism in the curriculum where appropriate.
