Position Summary: The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences is inviting applications for a fixed-term faculty position in veterinary companion animal primary care. The position is a 1 year, fixed-term appointment with the academic rank of assistant professor. This is a full time, 12-month appointment that has the potential for renewal beyond the first year. The successful applicant will join two other full-time faculty members, a licensed veterinary technician, and a veterinary assistant devoted to the primary care
service. Department faculty also include specialists in surgery, internal medicine, emergency and critical care medicine, cardiology, neurology, dermatology, ophthalmology, oncology, sports medicine and rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, and anesthesia.
The duties of the successful applicant include participation in the teaching and service missions of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Approximately 70-80% effort will be devoted to clinical service and instruction. Applicants should have experience and aptitude in delivering excellent primary (first-opinion) medical, surgical, and dental care to companion (canine and feline) animals. Small exotic "pocket pet" clinical experience is desirable but not essential. An interest in shelter medicine is also desirable, but not essential. The position involves extensive instruction of veterinary students in a teaching-hospital setting, and training of veterinary interns assigned to the primary care service. The instructional model emphasizes increasing student autonomy and hands-on experience under direct veterinary supervision, attempting to simulate a high-throughput, time-efficient practice environment.
Faculty: Minimum Qualifications Support Staff: Minimum Requirements Minimum qualifications include a DVM degree (or equivalent) from an AVMA accredited veterinary school, and a valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Michigan.
