TECH LAB ANIMAL
Duties: The Lab Animal Technician will play an important role in a facility that creates and studies unique strains of transgenic and knockout mice, as well as transgenic rat lines that are animal models of breast cancer. Work will be done under the guidance of the project manager. Breeding, record keeping, drug treatment, survival surgery, and tissue dissection will be an essential part of the position. The technician will be part of a team which collectively provides services to the research laboratory, so good communication skills and a team-oriented approach is expected.
Most of the work is done in the University's animal facility and requires gowning. It is essential that the candidate does not have any allergies to rodents.
Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED and 3 years of animal husbandry or related animal care experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. AALAS certification may replace the years of experience. Ability to follow oral and written instruction and experience with barrier facility procedures is required. Experience with any of the following is preferred: laboratory animal care, rodent breeding, genotyping, survival surgery, post-mortem tissue harvest. The successful candidate must be able to adapt to our systems and be willing to learn new procedures and techniques, they should have a team orientation; and be flexible in order to meet varied and changing project needs. Must be self-directed and be able to work independently with access to supervisory guidance. The candidate must possess good communication skills, good organizational skills, and be detail oriented.
