General Description of Position:

The Nanotechnology lab in the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering department (http://www-personal.ksu.edu/~gurpreet/) at Kansas State University in need of a highly motivated research associate in the field of experimental Nanotechnology. The research will mainly be focused on synthesis of advanced materials such as precursor derived ceramics, graphene oxide, transition metal chalcogenides with applications in energy storage devices and conversion devices. The research work involves synthesis of nanomaterials using liquid phase exfoliation, ceramics, and characterization using Cyclic voltammetry, Impedance spectroscopy, Electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and Corrosion testing. The candidate has an overall responsibility to perform the experiments, analyze the data, and write journal papers/technical reports.

Job Description:

Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

·          Experience in processing of 2-D nanomaterials, ceramics and coatings

·          Demonstrated experience with electrochemical and/or corrosion techniques including use of Origin software

·          Be able to operate electron microscope, XRD, and Raman spectroscope

·          Be able to assemble coin and Swagelok type cells, and supercapacitor devices

·          Expertise in a wide-range of electrochemical testing techniques such as corrosion testing, CV, impedance methods etc.

·          Excellent written oral/communication skills.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Successful applicants must have an earned doctorate in mechanical, materials science, chemistry or related disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience as Graduate Research Assistant, Postdoc or Research Scientist.

Physical Activities and Environmental Conditions :

Activities associated with working in a scientific lab conducting experimental research.

Salary Range / Pay Rate:

Appointment is for a period of up to one year with a salary of $48,000 annually.
