POSITION: Tenure line position in music (Piano and Music Theory), open rank

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time, tenure line position to begin August 2017.


QUALIFICATIONS:  DMA in Music (Piano Performance) required, strong commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts setting; demonstrated teaching excellence. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach courses in the music curriculum, including music theory, piano proficiencies, class piano, and piano lessons. The successful candidate will also be expected to coordinate accompanying for music majors, schedule piano tunings, and be an academic advisor to music majors. As needed, additional responsibilities may include teaching music appreciation, world music, or the college-wide Introduction to the Liberal Arts and/ or Liberal Arts Capstone courses.

DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC:  Central College offers the B.A. in music and in music education.  The department has seven full-time faculty who offer a wide range of courses in music theory, literature, and applied techniques.  A large variety of choral and instrumental ensembles are available to all students, and private study is available in strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, voice, organ, piano and harpsichord.  The Department of Music also works closely with the college's celebrated Education Department to deliver an excellent educational experience for our students, and to supply the state of Iowa with highly qualified educators. The Department of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.  A preparatory program exists for community musicians and about one quarter of Central students participate in music ensembles through the music department.
