Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership (KFP) is an initiative of NCSU's Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science. Founded in 2000, the KFP addresses the critical need for high-quality professional development for educators, and is the largest STEM-focused teacher leadership program in North Carolina. Outstanding K-12 teachers from across the state are selected through a competitive application process for this yearlong program. Key components are a three-week summer internship with a mentor in a research or applied STEM setting, and 80 hours of professional development that builds leadership capacity and promotes curricular design bridging STEM at work with STEM at school. More than 400 teachers are in the Kenan Fellows Alumni Network.
Essential Job Duties: The individual in this position reports to the KFP Associate Director for Program Operations and works closely with her/him to manage all aspects of program operations including teacher recruitment, internship oversight, professional development, and project design/implementation. This Program Manager serves a key contact for Fellows and their STEM mentors, as well as school district personnel. Specific responsibilities include: * Recruit and collaborate with mentors to design mutually beneficial fellowship projects * Recruit applicants, and manage the Fellowship application review and selection process * Manage orientation for new Fellows * Maintain relationships and monitor progress of Fellow-Mentor pairs to ensure that all program requirements are satisfied in a timely manner * Monitor progress of Fellows and their projects * Collaborate with Communications Manager and other KFP staff in the develop- ment of program materials, news releases, social media posts and communications with Fellows and program partners * Foster and maintain good relationships with school district personnel * Contribute to the design of professional development institutes and manage their implementation * Collaborate with KFP Director and Assistant Director for Development in their work to secure program resources * Manage grant projects as assigned and maintain timely communications with funding agencies * Be knowledgeable of project budgets and communicate effectively with Assistant Director for Finance regarding project funds * Disseminate the work of the KFP through presentations, publications, and social media as appropriate
Minimum Education/Experience: - Bachelor's degree in education or other relevant field required - At least three years of K-12 teaching experience required
Department Required Skills: * Outstanding interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups * Strong organizational, presentation, time management, and writing skills * Proficient in the use of technology to support the work of educators * Self-directed/self-motivated
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Knowledge of education policy at the state and federal level * Experience with grant funded projects * Master degree * Experience in leading teacher professional development
