Position Summary: The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine invites applications for an open rank, fixed-term faculty member to serve as the department's Director of Research. The primary missions for this position are: to work closely with the Chair in the formulation and implementation of strategic plans; to develop the research enterprise of the Department; to oversee and direct all public communication and development efforts for the Department; to work with Chair, faculty, fellows and students in their efforts to apply for sponsored research grants; and, to direct and oversee departmental administration, which includes the physical facilities. This position is considered absolutely critical for the organization and oversight of Cell Biology and Physiology sponsored research activities. These activities are complex, demanding and very detailed. This position reports directly to the Chair and acts as one of the primary designees representing the department in committees and other campus meetings as needed.

Education Requirements: Minimum qualifications of an advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree) and experience in the full range of administrative functions of an academic department or research center in a higher education, research, or health care and setting.

Qualification and Experience: Candidates should possess significant experience in grant preparation and review, laboratory management, budget management, which should include short and long-term planning, project coordination, personnel supervision, knowledge of medical research, laboratory science public and private granting agencies and strong organizational / interpersonal skills.
