A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is open in Dr. Hui Zong's laboratory (email@example.com) in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology, University of Virginia, to study molecular and cellular mechanisms of tumor-tumor and tumor-microenvironment interactions in brain tumors.
Research projects will include but not limited to molecular profiling of brain tumor and tumor microenvironment (TME) cells, establishing and utilizing primary tumor and TME culture system to investigate intrinsic molecular mechanisms and extrinsic cell-cell interactions for the initiation and progression of malignant brain tumors. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work independently on the projects, spending approximately 90% of the time conducting experiments and analyzing data, 5% on training graduate students, and 5% on writing manuscripts and grants. It is expected that the Research Associate will report research progress regularly in lab and collaborative meetings, present results and solicit input at local, national, and international conferences in the form of posters or oral presentations, and prepare figures and text for manuscripts with the PI's input.
The position requires a Ph.D. degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related area in hand at time of hire with a strong publication record in these areas. A minimum of three years of experience with full proficiency in techniques including primary cell culture, gene expression profiling, cloning and infection/transfection of constructs for gene over-expression or knockdown, cell based assays such as MTT, immunohistological staining, and confocal microscopy and image analysis, etc. Experience in membrane proteins, cytoskeletal regulation, cutting-edge imaging of subcellular signaling, and bioinformatics is preferred. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and can work both independently and collaboratively.
