The Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a clinical assistant professor in Socio-cultural Studies in Education. This non-tenure-track position, effective August 16, 2017, offers a nine-month appointment with a two-year, renewable contract.

Candidates should be prepared to teach foundations of education courses with a focus on K-12 education in the U.S. and internationally. We seek candidates with a disciplinary base in social and philosophical studies in education, able to introduce students to issues of diversity and equity from historical, socio-cultural, and philosophical perspectives. The candidate will join a department committed to interdisciplinary study of P-20 educational policy, its formation, implementation, and evaluation. We offer an EdD, a PhD, MS degrees, and specialized graduate certificates, and participate in the college's educator preparation programs.

Responsibilities: Teach 12-15 credit hours per academic year in areas such as Education in American Culture in the educator professional preparation programs (at undergraduate and graduate levels), Comparative and International Education, and Socio-Cultural Studies in Education. The individual will be responsible for creating and monitoring partnerships with schools and community settings for students' experiential field placements as required in the department's educator preparation courses. Other responsibilities include supervising department teaching assistants; facilitating department courses and programs for undergraduate core requirements and for educator preparation; serving on graduate certificate, masters, and doctoral degree committees; and supervising graduate students undertaking internships and developing research projects. The person will also be expected to participate in department and college initiatives.

Qualifications: 1) Earned doctorate in studies in social and philosophical studies of education or related field, 2) demonstrated record of teaching experience and prior experience working in advising roles with students, and 3) a record of engaged scholarship in education and experience in K-12 schools and community settings. Experience in international education is also preferred.
