Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement
This is a Non State Funded Position. The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Institutional Advancement will report to the Interim Vice President and is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the University’s Development, Annual Programs, Alumni and Advancement Services units. The AVP plans, organizes, and executes the major gifts program and is the primary tactical, administrative, and management officer for the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Position serves as a team leader and supervisor for professional staff members for Alumni & Donor Relations, Advancement Services, Annual Programs & Special Initiatives and Gift Planning departments.
Required Education and Experience- Bachelor’s degree.Minimum of ten (10) years related experience (OR equivalent combination of education and experience such as Master’s and eight (8) years of related experience). Proven record of leadership and accomplishment in the field of development. Track record of fundraising success, especially in major gift development and solicitations. Demonstrated experience in marketing, persuasive writing, working directly with volunteers and personal correspondence with donors. Demonstrated understanding of relational fundraising and skill to convincingly articulate needs and goals that motivate potential donors to make gifts. Aptitude and willingness to help build and lead an effective advancement program. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent presentation skills. Strong work ethic, personal integrity and strategic thinking.
Required -Ability to Travel (approximately 30% of time is spent out of the office. Includes air travel and overnight stays.) Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to prioritize. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

OUR HISTORY Texas A&M University-Commerce began as East Texas Normal College in 1889 when founder William Leonidas Mayo opened the doors to a one-building campus in Cooper. His creed, which continues today, was “ceaseless industry, fearless investigation, unfettered thought, and unselfish service to others.” The institution’s history of dynamic change began in 1894 when “Mayo’s College” moved to Commerce. The State of Texas took over the campus in 1917 and the name was changed to East Texas State Normal College. In 1923, the school was renamed East Texas State Teachers College. The graduate program was added in 1935, and in 1957 the Legislature, recognizing that the purpose of the institution had broadened from teacher education, changed the name to East Texas State College. Following the inauguration of the first doctoral program in 1962, the name was changed to East Texas State University. In 1996, the institution entered The Texas A&M University System and became Texas A&M University-Commerce.
The main Commerce campus and six off-site locations—Corsicana, Dallas, McKinney, Mesquite, Midlothian, Rockwall—and online offerings, continue to meet the undergraduate, graduate and professional needs of the citizens of Northeast Texas and beyond.
