LOCKSS Partnerships Manager
This is a two-year fixed-term position, with the possibility of an extension.
The LOCKSS software is an award-winning open-source distributed digital preservation platform used widely by libraries and publishers to preserve and provide access to persistent and authoritative digital content. The LOCKSS Program seeks a Partnerships Manager to support two major and complementary initiatives over the next two years: a major software re-architecture project and expansion of LOCKSS networks and services. This role will serve as an evangelist and liaison for the software re-architecture project, and a community manager and partner consultant for LOCKSS networks.
As an integration broker, this role will help to maximize the benefit of the LOCKSS software re-architecture for the broadest-possible community of digital preservation stakeholders. This will entail engaging with relevant technical communities to facilitate reuse of modularized LOCKSS software components and to enable fruitful technical collaborations on areas of shared interest. This role will also gather and convey community requirements and serendipitous opportunities back to the LOCKSS software development team for consideration of new functionalities, elaborations of the core APIs, or nominal changes to enhance interoperability with other systems. In further support of a community-centric approach, this role will ensure that the software re-architecture project is structured and presented so as to be most amenable to external uptake and engagement.
As a network business manager, this role will help to grow and sustain utilization of LOCKSS networks and technologies for a diversity of communities and digital preservation use cases. This will entail engaging with current and prospective partner communities to understand needs and alignment with LOCKSS resources and service offerings. This role will be instrumental to the further improvement of LOCKSS network services, and will support such functions as business development, consultative services, marketing, project management, service definition, and support coordination. This role will also help to connect related LOCKSS network communities to facilitate technical collaboration, exchange of best practices, and more refined feedback for core service development.
This position entails periodic travel, for partner engagement and representation of LOCKSS at appropriate community fora.
CORE DUTIES*: Act as single point of contact between IT and the customer.
Perform necessary business and system analysis to gather all pertinent data related to issues in production system, patches, upgrades, and enhancements.
Collaborate with business partners to gather requirements and identify gaps between requirements and the application. Assist business partners with determining deliverables, creating system test plans, identifying test scenarios, managing user-acceptance testing and conducting production roll out of resolution.
Collaborate with developers on application specifications and system enhancements to ensure appropriateness of design and delivering resolution of issues; work with business partners to test and deploy resolution in a timely manner.
Assist with initial determination of the feasibility of requests and ensure user requirements are thoroughly and accurately documented in accordance with standard techniques.
Interact with team members, the user community and others on an ongoing basis to ensure accurate identification and delivery of business requirements.
Make formal recommendations, and write application specifications, including conversion, upgrade and interface routines.
Develop functional specifications to ensure compliance with system development lifecycle methods.
Team up with business partners and developers to set realistic response time and/or deliverable expectations.
Manage the implementation of the approved development in partnership with developers and business partners.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Relevant experience may include:
Demonstrated experience participating in open source software projects, including distributed development and community building, engagement, and maintenance.
Demonstrated experience in user-centered design, test-driven development, and traditional and agile software development methodologies.
Demonstrated experience managing digital library projects or services, including such activities as documentation, outreach, and technical analysis.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong capabilities in the following: data mapping, conversion, table structure knowledge, running and analyzing traces, configuration settings, page customizations, security updates, custom coding logics, issues analysis and recommendations, running SQL queries, documentation skills, test scripts development, functional analysis, coordination of user acceptance and sign-off, business process improvement, fit/gap analysis, requirements documentation and process flow charting, presentation of options and solutions facilitation.
Strong understanding of the components of web applications.
Strong understanding of the software development life cycle.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with minimum direction.
Ability to establish effective, ongoing relationships with clients, staff and management.
Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and work under pressure in high stress situations.
Relevant knowledge, skills and abilities may include:
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with all levels of staff, vendors, and community members; sensitive to and effective in working with the libraries, archives, and museums sector, nationally and internationally.
Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to craft tailored marketing materials, in multiple media; an instinct for uncovering business and partnership opportunities.
