The Department of Anthropology and Sociology at Knox College invites applications for a one-year full-time visiting assistant professor position in sociology to begin September 2017.  Knox is an independent, selective liberal arts institution with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in a diverse environment. The Anthropology and Sociology Department offers a joint integrative major that emphasizes the complementarities of the two disciplines and that culminates in faculty-supervised student research. The College operates on a trimester system with a teaching load of 2-2-2.

Qualifications: Ph.D. preferred; advanced ABD in sociology considered. Candidates must have experience using qualitative research methods and be prepared to supervise students conducting ethnographic research. Candidates should also be prepared to teach at the introductory level, and to offer at least one course in their specialty area. Research and teaching areas are open, but the strongest applications will be those that expand rather than duplicate the strengths of our existing faculty.

Please submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching ability (including sample syllabi for existing or future courses and available teaching evaluations), and three letters of reference to Professor Nancy Eberhardt at socsearch@knox.edu. Review of applications begins March 15, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.

Knox College is an independent, top-100 national liberal arts college that enrolls 1,400 undergraduate students. Students have a strong commitment to intellectual and experiential education. In keeping with our 180-year commitment to equity and access, we particularly welcome applications from women and members of underrepresented groups.
