Minimum Qualifications:

• Possession of a Master’s degree or above in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/ family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND Master’s degree or above in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bi-cultural education, life management/ home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies OR the equivalent (see below).
• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Preference will be given to candidates with:
1. Successful experience in teaching the full range of college early childhood education/ child development and education courses
2. Commitment to and proficiency in creating curricula and methods of delivery that reflect the highest industry standards and practices
3. The ability to motivate students from a broad spectrum of cultural, ethnic, academic, socioeconomic, abilities, and language backgrounds
4. Experience in computer-based applications and emerging technologies for teaching early childhood education/child development courses
5. Knowledge of the system of regulations in California regarding employment and credentialing of early childhood and Elementary TK-grade 5
6. Experience or familiarity with student and program learning outcomes development and assessment for early childhood/ child development courses
7. Experience in collaborating on college-wide and departmental activities to assess and improve student learning
8. Experience working and collaborating with outside agencies and organizations
9. Experience with proposal writing for educational grants and public funding
10. Understanding of and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college, including the mission and values of Skyline College
11. The ability to use teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in their studies, encouraging them to become critical thinkers and independent learners that demonstrate cultural sensitivity and understanding of interdisciplinary approaches
12. Experience working in the field of early care and education as a teacher or administrator
13. Evidence of participation in ongoing professional development experiences
14. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff
15. A strong vision for how to positively impact student achievement at the college
