RESEARCH SPECIALIST A
Duties: The candidate will provide tissue culture and general lab support for a research group that studies the molecular and cell biology of genetic diseases of bone formation. Establish cell lines, DNA, and RNA stocks from blood and primary tissue sources; maintain cell stocks; keep detailed records. Work independently to establish cell cultures from primary tissue sources, generate stable transformed cell lines, and maintain laboratory cell stocks and detailed records. Modify and improve protocols as needed. Conduct experiments using cell lines; perform data analysis. Maintain sample database. Share responsibility for essential daily operations of laboratory and cell culture facility; coordinate transition to new lab space including preparations for laboratory relocations and set up in new locations. Write lab reports, and present data in both written and oral format. Write reports, present data/information in written and oral formats. Research scientific literature to support projects. Keep organized lab notebooks, databases, and other lab records. Provide information for regulatory protocols and maintain regulatory safety records. Occasional weekend and evening availability is required. Safety and technical training will be provided.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or some related field and 0 to 1 year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some previous lab work is preferred; can be undergraduate lab work or internship. The successful candidate must be reliable with attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to coordinate several projects concurrently. Must have good written and oral communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
