The Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking a tenure-ineligible Assistant Professor of Research. The Assistant Professor of Research will be responsible for conducting behavioral prevention research within the Department of Public Health Sciences and for UVAs Cancer Center without Walls. Working in collaboration with the Associate Director of UVA's Cancer Center without Walls, responsibilities will span a number of established community-based research projects related to cancer prevention and control, including research that targets nutrition, physical activity, and obesity-related outcomes. Community engagement and outreach are also key responsibilities of this position. The successful candidate will have experience preparing and managing federally funded research and is expected to develop an extramurally-funded program of research.
A PhD in behavioral sciences, nutrition, public health, psychology, or a related field is required. Applicants should be a registered dietitian, and have expertise and training in evidence-based behavioral nutrition and physical activity programs, community-based participatory research, health literacy, and/or dissemination and implementation methodology. Must also have a minimum of two years experience working in rural, Appalachian communities, and have a strong interest and experience in community-based research working with diverse, at-risk diverse communities. The successful candidate must have experience in translational science and working with a multidisciplinary team of scientists; data management and statistical analytic skills; experience preparing and managing federally funded research trials; and experience with preparing peer-review publications and scholarly presentations.
