Muskingum University invites applications for the position of Henry S. and Katherine W. Evans Director of the Roberta A. Smith University Library, effective Fall semester of 2017.  Opened in 2016, the Roberta A. Smith University Library is a state-of-the-art, technologically-rich, teaching, learning and research center that is also a congressionally-designated depository for U.S. government documents.  Muskingum University is a member of the OPAL (Ohio Private Academic Libraries) and OhioLINK consortia with borrowing privileges at over one hundred libraries throughout Ohio. 

The University seeks an accomplished professional with a vision of/for innovative learning environments, the effective operation of a library within a forward-looking twenty-first century liberal arts setting, and the continued active integration of the Library with the fabric of the academic, intellectual, and experiential life of Muskingum University.  The Director holds an endowed directorship, a twelve-month administrative position with faculty rank, and serves as the chairperson of the Library Science department.

Qualifications: Strong understanding of – and vision for – innovative learning environments, both online and otherwise.  Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in information literacy, and in academic research.  Similarly strong understanding of current and emerging information technologies, and for collection development in a rapidly-expanding technological age.  Commitment to team development, and to open collaboration with all University units, and with consortia and other external partners.  Must be dedicated to a superior user experience, to engaged outreach, and to continuous professional development of self and of unit members.  MLS from an ALA-accredited program, plus five years of progressively-responsible leadership, vision, and supervisory experience in a library.  Proven ability to effectively manage budgets, projects and tasks.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, and with common online library software and applications.  Excellent written, oral and online communication.  Position requires some in and out-of-state travel, plus some weekend hours.

Appointment to this position is conditional upon the successful completion of a background check through the University’s background check agency.
