Instructor - Theatre & Dance Projection and Lighting Designer

The Program: The Department of Theatre & Dance is a lively and active community of approximately 350 majors and a faculty of twenty-two. The department offers BA, BFA, MA and Ph.D. degrees in Theatre and BA, BFA and MFA degrees in Dance. The department employs a full-time Faculty Technical Director in Theatre, a full-time Faculty Technical Director/Lighting Designer in Dance, a Theatre & Dance Production Coordinator, a Scene Shop Foreperson, Master Electrician, and several paid student employees. The department produces approximately 15 Theatre & Dance productions per academic year in three theatres and hosts the Colorado Shakespeare Festival in the summer months.
Job Responsibilities: Function as the Faculty Resident Projection/Media and Lighting Designer for both theatre and dance. Mentor student designers and technicians in these areas. Shared responsibility with the technical design staff for facilitating, organizing and supervising production execution of projections/media and lighting in a multiple venue facility. Design projections/media or lighting on 2 shows per semester (one theatre, one dance). Teach 2 courses per semester in areas of projections/media, lighting and experience design, and participate on department committees.
Specific Teaching Duties: Teaching responsibilities could include graduate and undergraduate courses in Projection Design/Technology, Stage Lighting 1, Stage Lighting 2, and Advanced Production Design. Mentor student designers, supervise practicum students and safety training of students. Participate in BFA portfolio reviews.

Minimum Required Qualifications: MFA degree and significant experience in Projection/Media and Lighting design for theatre and dance.
Desired Qualifications: Formal instruction and professional experience in additional areas of design (sound, scenery, etc.). University-level teaching experience.
Start date August 2017.
