Tenure-track Faculty: Secondary Literacy/English Education
The School of Education at the University of Colorado Boulder announces a tenure track position for the 2017-18 academic year in Secondary Literacy/English Education. This is an open rank position that may be filled at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level based on the competitiveness of the applicants.
This scholar will join an internationally recognized faculty whose deep commitments to equity and access are reflected in our research, policy, and practice. We seek scholars who are committed to addressing the pressing educational challenges facing our country from a wide array of methodological and disciplinary perspectives and scholars who are committed to working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Priority will be given to candidates with an active and coherent research agenda, a strong publication record commensurate with experience, and a corresponding record of success in obtaining outside funding. We seek candidates who are interested in contributing to our innovative teacher education programs and our doctoral programs across several areas.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Candidates for this position must have an earned doctorate in secondary literacy education, English education, or a related field, as well as experience teaching and conducting research in 6-12 classrooms. We are seeking applicants whose work addresses issues of race, class, culture, gender, and/or sexuality in studies of literacy learning and teaching both in and out of school. We are also especially interested in applicants whose research is informed by sociocultural, critical, post-structural, and post-qualitative theoretical perspectives and impulses. Desired research areas may include, but are not limited to, writing and the teaching of writing, literature study and pedagogy, disciplinary literacies, multimodality and 21st century literacies, critical discourse studies, and policy studies related to literacy education change/reform. Additionally, applicants must have a strong commitment to practice-based, social-justice-oriented teacher education and to building partnerships with public schools and/or community-based organizations for youth. Preference will be given to individuals with teaching and research experience at the middle or secondary school level, especially those who have experience with culturally, linguistically, or economically diverse student populations. This applicant chosen to fill this position will be expected to teach secondary language arts/literacy methods courses and to work collaboratively with colleagues toward the continuous improvement of an exceptional secondary teacher education program. Opportunities will also be available to develop and teach courses for our M. A. and Ph. D. programs. The successful candidate will become a faculty member in the Literacy Studies Program Area within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. This candidate will be encouraged to engage in collaborative research with other faculty members in the School of Education on a variety of topics related to literacy learning and teaching and/or teacher education.
