The University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus invites nominations and applications for the Dean of the College of Architecture and Planning. The University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus is a comprehensive urban research university serving more than 18,000 students in metropolitan Denver and online. We award nearly 5,000 degrees each year. Our award-winning faculty and renowned researchers offer nearly 150 highly rated degree programs through 13 schools and colleges. In addition to the significant number of undergraduate and graduate degree programs at our comprehensive campus in the heart of Denver, we offer a wide array of health-related programs and facilities at our Anschutz Medical Campus. The College of Architecture and Planning at CU Denver is the only college in Colorado offering comprehensive programs in the design and planning of the built environment, from undergraduate through professional master's degrees to the interdisciplinary doctorate. Nearly 700 students are enrolled in accredited architecture, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, urban design, and historic preservation programs. The college offers certificates in Design Build, Geospatial Information Science (GIS), and Integrated Construction, Management and Leadership (ICML), as well as eight options for earning dual graduate degrees. We have four very active research centers including the Center of Preservation Research (CoPR), the Colorado Center for Community Development (CCCD), the Center for Advanced Research in Traditional Architecture (CARTA), and the Colorado Center for Sustainable Urbanism (CCSU). Students and faculty benefit from multiple study abroad opportunities as well as robust and long-standing collaborations with universities in Saudi Arabia, China, Denmark, Finland, Italy, and Guatemala. The College was just consolidated into one Denver facility for the first time in its history in 2014, when it admitted its first Bachelor of Science in architecture class. This presents a unique opportunity for the new Dean to build the College in their vision.

The College of Architecture and Planning is located in a dynamic city at the heart of a growing region seen as a national laboratory for innovative planning and urban design. Through hands-on, interdisciplinary education, faculty and students are extensively engaged with Colorado communities, and apply their knowledge to real world projects though service learning and applied research. The college's facilities in a recently-retrofitted downtown Denver building offer state-of-the-art resources including an extensive Design Fabrication Lab, Visual Resource Center, and two computer labs.

Job Summary:
The Dean of the College of Architecture and Planning is responsible for the effective administration of the teaching, scholarship (creative work/research), outreach programs, and outreach/engagement activities in the school. The Dean is expected to provide exceptional leadership and overall direction as s/he leads the schoolinto the forefront of architecture, landscape architecture, and planning/design education; work collaboratively with the faculty and staff; effectively and meaningfully engage the architecture, landscape architecture, and planning/design community; and provide leadershipfor the college's curricularinitiatives, research and scholarship, professional training,and recruitment and retention of high quality faculty, staff and student talent. The Dean is also responsible for the college's strategic planning, program evaluation and development, corporate outreach, alumniengagement, fundraising, enrollment, retention, persistence and completion, market planning, interdisciplinary initiativesineducation and research, and the management of the college's administrative and financial affairs. As the chief academic officer of the college, the Dean of the College of Architecture and Planning also appointsdepartment chairs, overseesaccreditation, developsnew curricula and programs, and strengthensexternal relationships. S/he must be able to establishbeneficial fundraising relationshipswith alumni donors and friends, industry partners, the architecture, landscape architecture, and planning/design community, government agencies, and the college's variousconstituents.

The successful candidate must have a strong, demonstrated commitment and accomplishment in building diversity and inclusion, an understanding of the challenges of architecture, landscape architecture, and design/planning education in an increasingly competitive and technologically diverse environment; demonstrated effective leadership skills, and the ability to motivate and manage change, energize and lead a committed faculty and staff; and the ability to innovate, forge partnerships, raise funds and partner with the architecture, landscape architecture, and design/planning community.

This position requires an earned terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a discipline relevant to the academic programs of the College of Architecture and Planning, leadership experience in higher education and a record of scholarship, teaching and service sufficient to be appointed as a full professor with tenure at the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus. In addition to these minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated senior-level leadership success at a research university and/or sustained executive-level success in the architecture, landscape architecture and design/planning profession.
