Description of Departments:
The Department of Art and Art History and Film Studies are highly interdisciplinary programs committed to the practice, production, critical and historical study of art and the moving image within a liberal arts education that encourages experimentation and independence of thought. Our faculty offer a rigorous curriculum that crosses disciplines and attracts inquisitive, dedicated students with wide-ranging interests, encouraging creative investigation as an essential skill informed by the highest standards of critical thought. Our diverse faculty, students, and staff are committed to ongoing engagement with communities locally and globally.
The two programs are closely allied, and offer the BA, BFA, MA, and MFA degrees. The university also offers an Art History track as part of the MS degree in Museum Studies.
Film Studies has ten full time faculty; Art and Art history has twenty-six full time faculty. Both programs have renowned programs of visiting scholars, filmmakers, and artists.
The University has two museums on campus, as well as special collections and archives that serve as a rich resource for faculty in supporting their research and teaching.

Overview of Job Duties:
The Department of Art and Art History and the Program in Film Studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder seeks a tenure-track faculty member in Curatorial and Critical Studies, as part of the Art Practices program, to begin August 2017. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct individual research; he or she will teach graduate critical theory and will be well versed in the practices of contemporary art and of the moving image. Research could consist of curatorial practice, art criticism, writing in traditional and non-traditional venues, and creative public projects. This new position is part of the creation of a certificate program in critical and curatorial studies. He or she will also engage in service/committee responsibilities involving a high degree of organizational ability, as well as engaging in the wider campus community through projects with the Denver and Front Range community of artists and creatives.
