Senior Professional Research Assistant

The Espinosa lab in the Department of Pharmacology has an opening for a full-time Senior Professional Research Assistant to work at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Professional Research Assistant to join our team researching the mechanisms of gene expression and the roles of gene networks in controlling cellular function.

Current areas of interest within the lab include:

  • Studying the role of interferon signaling in Down syndrome.
  • Using functional genomic screens to develop combinatorial therapeutic strategies for cancer.


Responsibilities:

The Professional Research Assistant will work closely with biologists in the lab to perform required experiments specific to the project, and will contribute to general laboratory upkeep.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • M.S. in Biology or a related field. Applicants with a B.S. in Biology or related field and at least 3 years full-time experience in a research laboratory setting may also be considered.
  • Experience with basic molecular biology research methods.
  • Experience with mammalian tissue culture.
  • Experience with RNA/DNA/Protein isolation and analysis.


Required Competencies/Knowledge/Skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to document methods and results for publication and/or future replication.
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for a research environment.


Desired Qualifications
  • 5 years full-time experience in a research laboratory setting.
  • 3 years mammalian tissue culture experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with rodent models
  • Experience with molecular biology methods, such as:
    • RT/quantitative PCR experience
    • Western blotting
    • RNA interference
    • Lenti/retroviral production and transduction
    • Flow cytometry
