The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is responsible for identifying, cultivating and recruiting potential applicants for admission as traditional first-time freshmen, transfers, and nontraditional adults; collecting and evaluating credentials; making decisions regarding individuals' candidacies for admission to UNCG; and positively affecting admitted students' decisions to matriculate to UNCG.
The primary purpose of this position is to function as an Admissions Counselor for the office. This position will recruit and cultivate prospects, applicants, and admitted students through direct participation in a variety of activities, articulate admissions procedures and requirements to prospective students, parents and counselors, evaluate credentials and make independent decisions regarding individuals' candidacies for admission to UNCG, and positively affect admitted students' decisions to matriculate to UNCG. Additionally, this position will provide support to the Assistant Directors in planning and executing targeted recruitment initiatives to increase UNCG's enrollment.
The Admissions Counselor encourages students to apply, visit, and enroll at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. This is accomplished through recruitment initiatives that include, but are not limited to individual high school and community college visits, attending college fairs, sponsoring special recruitment events and open house programs, sending e mail, writing letters and placing phone calls to students.
The Admissions Counselor will be responsible for executing and managing a geographic recruitment territory. Travel will be extensive and last 7-9 weeks during the fall and 5-6 weeks during the spring. During recruitment travel, the Admissions Counselor advises applicants, prospective students and administrators concerning admissions requirements and procedures.
The Admissions Counselor advises prospective students, applicants and their families concerning admissions policies and requirements while accentuating the positive aspects of the University's academic programs and resources. This is a complex process that includes assessing each student's situation independently and advising a course of action that is in the best interest of the student and the institution. The incumbent will have the opportunity to counsel various classifications of students including, but not limited to traditional, nontraditional transfer and second degree.
The Admissions Counselor evaluates academic credentials to determine the admissibility of freshmen, traditional transfer, former, and 2nd degree applicants. The decisions must be in compliance with national accrediting standards, the University of North Carolina Minimum Course Requirements (MCR), the current UNCG catalog, as well as with all relevant office procedures and standards. In reviewing academic credentials for admission, the incumbent uses all of the above guidelines as well as their training in making independent admissions decisions.
The Admissions Counselor may be assigned project management duties by the Associate Director, Senior Associate Director, or Director of Admissions.
The Admissions Counselor may be assigned other duties by the Associate Director, Senior Associate Director or Director of Admissions as required by the Undergraduate Admission.
