The College of Health Professions invites applications for a non-tenure track, 10-month Clinical Assistant Professor position in Exercise Science beginning August 2017.
Master’s degree or higher in Exercise Science, or a closely related discipline, and current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification is required. A minimum of three years of clinical/professional experience in the area of Exercise Science and evidence of currency in clinical/professional practice is required. The candidate should demonstrate competence in clinical/professional teaching in the area of expertise. Experience in higher education teaching and interdisciplinary activities and demonstrated success in working with diverse populations and students are highly preferred. Experience with using a variety of teaching methods or curricular perspectives is also preferred. The candidate should have knowledge of the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s CSCS certification process and be able to teach courses in the Exercise Science major with an emphasis on Strength and Conditioning as well as Sports Nutrition and Foundations of Exercise Science. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate proficiency with weightlifting movements and strength and conditioning methodologies.
Primary responsibilities include high-quality instruction in the classroom and clinical setting in a variety of undergraduate courses, particularly exercise science courses and maintain clinical excellence through a range of scholarly and other activities related to the position. The successful candidate will also assist with curriculum development, student recruitment, student advising and will provide service to the department, College, university, profession and community.
The Department of Kinesiology, located in the College of Health Professions, has 30 full time faculty and more than 1300 undergraduate majors in Physical Education/Teacher Education, Education, Athletic Training, Sport Management, and Exercise Science. In addition, the department has initiatives at the College’s Institute for Well-Being through its Wellness Center that supports student education, community education, and research.
