Implements security-related solutions designed to provide monitoring and analytical services for university networks and systems to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of university information system resources. Provides guidance to various teams across the University to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities. Evaluates, installs, configures, and provides maintenance of IT security related technologies.


40% - Essential - Security Infrastructure:
Maintain and build security tools and processes for critical infrastructure protection, monitoring, and remediation. Installs, configures, and maintains IT security hardware and software monitoring and control systems across multiple environments. Design, deploy, and manage network security infrastructure components such as network firewalls, VPN appliances, and IDS/IPS solutions for the campus network.

30% - Essential - IT Security:
Support existing security infrastructure and assist with the design and implementation of new solutions to protect Clemson's systems and networks. Designs, tests, and evaluates IT Security Solutions or alternatives to provide campus-wide solutions based on industry standards or University compliance needs. Work closely with members of the Cybersecurity Operations Center, developing processes and procedures to be utilized in support of day to day operational activities.

15% - Essential - Consultation:
Serve as a resource to other members of the University in IT Security and Privacy-related issues. Stays abreast of information security-related technologies, including hardware and software solutions designed to maintain security control in a diverse enterprise environment.

10% - Essential - Security Assessment:
Leads risk assessment activities to identify potential threats/vulnerabilities to network assets. Identifies suspicious behavior, and addresses threats to the enterprise network infrastructure.

5% - Non-Essential - Professional Development:
Ensure current industry best practices are understood and applied where applicable. Pursue security certifications to enhance abilities to perform job requirements.


A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or related field and experience in information technology systems or related area. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

No Budget Responsibilities - No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.


Experience: Experience working in two or more of the following: Security monitoring and intrusion detection; Network protocols and secure network design; operating system internals and hardening methods (e.g. Windows, Linux, OS X, Android); web application and browser security; security assessments and penetration testing; authentication and access control; applied cryptography and security protocols; incident response and forensics; development of security tools, automation or frameworks.

Licences & Certifications: CISSP, GIAC (GPEN, GCIH, GXPN, GSEC, GWAPT, GCFA, GREM), or OSCP preferred
