Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Technology Support Services (TSS) unit in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides technology support services to the university. Major services provided by TSS include the NC State Help Desk, the OIT Managed Desktop service, Hosted Services and Learning Space Support.
Essential Job Duties: The Windows Service Architect provides engineering and support for the development and use for the OIT Managed Desktop and Hosted Services (OITMDHS) in physical and virtual environments (AWS, Hyper-V, VMWare and/or VCL. The Windows Service Architect will be expected to: * Strive to become a campus-leading provider of infrastructure support and design for Active Directory, SCCM and supporting technologies related to base systems, workstation imaging, patching and connected systems as well as sustainable management practices of the Hosted Services service. * Create and manage work flows, data flows, integration services, server configurations, and documentation for key infrastructure components in conjunction and coordination with the campus system hosting group(s). * Represent and advocate for needs of OIT-TSS to campus technical and governance groups. * Work with management to pick up ad-hoc and higher-level project planning, execution and support duties where necessary. * Foster an open collaboration by working with other (OITMD and non-OITMD-supported) departments who may struggle to understand and/or adopt existing technologies/services including general guidance and technical advice (especially to those departments without strong IT skills. )
Department Required Skills: * Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, SCCM 2007/2012, WSUS, WDS, MS Windows workstation (10/7x86 and 10/x64)/server (2008/2012/2016), and GPO management. * Advanced knowledge of a vast array of systems, applications and protocols (e.g. Windows OS registry manipulation, VMWare or equivalent virtual system, LDAP, TCP/IP) in a distributed and federated environment. * Demonstrated consultancy/negotiation skills to build a consensus within a group given the boundaries, concerns, needs, wants and constraints of the given environment. * Efficiently and effectively multitask to work on multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Minimum of a two-year degree in a technology related field or work equivalent. Five or more years in end-user technical support and/or system administrator roles. Intermediate working knowledge of Linux environments and use of supporting authentication systems (Active Directory/LDAP). Basic knowledge of Project Management Institute methodologies or involvement with a project governed by standard PMI-like practices a plus. Familiarity with MacOS/Casper Suite (JAMFPro) a plus.
