Duties: The Annenberg School for Communication Library Archives collects, preserves, and makes available for research materials pertinent to the interdisciplinary field of communication and its history. Our holdings currently include the papers of scholars George Gerbner and Elihu Katz, and a vast collection of daytime and prime time television scripts from the 1950s through the 1990s.

The Archival Assistant is a part-time, two-year limited term position based at the Annenberg School for Communication Library. Under the guidance of the Archivist, the assistant's primary duties will be first to process, and then to participate in developing a digital presence for the International Communication Association records.

During the processing phase, the assistant will (following archival standards and local practices) arrange, describe, and prepare a finding aid for the ICA records using Archivists' Toolkit. As digitization of the collection proceeds, the assistant will be responsible for the creation of metadata, and the batch upload of those metadata and with their corresponding files to the ASC Library Archives' Omeka site. Other projects and/or duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED and 3 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A Bachelor's degree is preferred. Must have the ability to maintain a high degree of attention to detail over the course of extended tasks. Ability to exercise sound judgement and flexibility. Experience working independently and collaboratively. Experience with Microsoft Office, and general facility with digital environments. Demonstrated excellent written communication skills.

Preferred qualifications include: interest in the preservation and accessibility of primary source material; familiarity with current national data content and structure standards as they apply to archival materials and collections, and other resources more generally; familiarity with content management systems/web publishing software (e.g., Omeka).
