University of North Texas Dallas - Senior Accountant - Financial Aid
The University of North Texas System at Dallas invites applications for the position of Senior Accountant - Financial Aid. Performs accounting functions for Student Financial Aid and Scholarships using fund accounting and generally accepted accounting principles. This position ensures the recording and accounting of the withdrawal, distribution, and return of student financial aid and scholarship funds according to Federal and State regulations and university policy. Performs moderately complex (senior-level) accounting work. Work involves preparing financial statements, records, documents, and reports. Specializes in accounting work for Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:* Perform accounting activity related to scholarships and financial aid and reconcile those accounts on a monthly basis* Classify, code, post, and balance financial and accounting documents and records* Ensure proper application of fees, refunds, collections, and discounts in order to verify general ledger balances* Resolve non-standard accounting transactions and initiate appropriate corrections to accounting records* Prepare monthly journal entries, account reconciliations and various accounting statements and reports for financial aid and scholarships* Prepare billing documentation for Foundation Scholarships* Post Federal cash for Title IV aid and transactions and other types of financial aid disbursements* Record withdrawal, disbursement, and return of Federal funds in accordance with Title IV cash management requirements* Resolve accounting discrepancies with Student Accounting, University Advancement and Financial Aid as part of the monthly reconciliation process* Reconcile existing Federal, State and institutional fund disbursements with general accounting* Review accounting and financial documents for accuracy and compliance with policies, procedures and State and Federal statutes* Assist with preparation of IPEDS student financial aid data for annual reporting* May recommend improvements, adaptations, or revisions to the accounting system and accompanying procedures* Performs related work as assignedThe University of North Texas System is firmly committed to equal opportunity and does not permit - and takes actions to prevent - discrimination, harassment (including sexual violence), and retaliation on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, family status, genetic information, citizenship or veteran status in its application and admission processes, educational programs and activities, facilities, and employment practices.
