Department Head / Professor (Diagnostic Medicine / Pathobiology)
General Description of Position: The College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University invites applications and letters of nomination for the Head of the Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology. The Department seeks a dynamic leader with established excellence in teaching, research, diagnostics, and administration who can assume the position starting in August 2017. The successful candidate will be eligible for appointment as a Professor, with tenure. This is a 12-month position with competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Job Description: The Head will lead a Department of over 55 faculty members who are nationally and internationally recognized for their excellence in service, teaching, and experimental and clinical investigations of diseases of animals. In addition, the Department has over 40 adjunct and ancillary members who also contribute to research, teaching and service activities within the Department. The Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, located in the Department, provides high quality, efficient diagnostic and consultative services to veterinarians, livestock producers, animal owners, public health officials, researchers, and commercial enterprises in Kansas and beyond. A leader in research and teaching in pathobiology and veterinary diagnostic medicine, the Department has consistently been in the top 5 of all science, technology, engineering and mathematics departments at the University for extramural research funding expenditures. Department faculty members provide professional (DVM) training, graduate (MS and PhD) education in clinical pathology, pathology, microbiology, parasitology, cancer biology, toxicology, epidemiology and public health, as well as residency programs in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology, and toxicology. The Department has over 60 PhD and MS students, 6-8 post-DVM residents, over 15 post-doctoral associates, and numerous visiting scientists and international scholars. The Department has excellent teaching, research, and diagnostic facilities. Research facilities include specialized college core laboratories for cellular and molecular biology, confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, flow cytometry, and image analysis. Required Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a PhD or other earned doctoral degree in biomedical sciences or a related discipline, an outstanding history of scholarly achievement and success in extramurally funded research. The candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership and management abilities, a strong commitment to professional DVM and graduate student education and the professional development of faculty, staff and students, good communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to promote a culture of diversity and inclusiveness.
