Founded in 1919, AUC moved to a new 270-acre state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo in 2008. The University also operates in its historic downtown facilities, offering cultural events, graduate classes, and continuing education. Student housing is available in New Cairo. Among the premier universities in the region, AUC is Middle States accredited; its Engineering programs are accredited by ABET, its Chemistry program is accredited by the Canadian Society for Chemistry, and the School of Business is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. The School of Sciences and Engineering at the American University in Cairo has openings for interdisciplinary faculty positions at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor.
As part of their teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching and research in biomedical, clinical science, including environmental health, and implementation policy. In addition, the successful candidate(s) will be encouraged to develop and/or teach course(s) in their area of expertise. The School is home to programs in Natural Sciences and Engineering. The School is also home to programs and centers in Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, and Environmental Engineering. Five centers are housed in the School, two of which focus on Environmental Development and Sustainability. In addition, the School and University are embarking on initiatives that focus on community engagement in health to complement its ongoing activities in diagnostics, therapeutics and environmental sustainability.
The successful candidate for any of these positions is expected to be active or capable of developing research and provide services in his/her field of specialization.
Global Community Health. The School seeks a strong candidate to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level and conduct research, inclusive of student supervision, on maternal and child health and with an interest in health equity and ethics. Discovery or translational research may address health through the lifespan, including the neonatal period, childhood, adolescence, pregnancy and reproductive health. Critical areas of research may include vaccines and preventable infectious diseases, nutrition specific and sensitive interventions, non-communicable diseases, and integrated approaches to improvement of maternal health and child health and development. An interest in engaging in fieldwork in urban and remote underserved areas with student and community engagement is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to lead an independent research agenda in line with Global Health priorities and to play a central role in the School's master's and doctoral programs. Travel and fieldwork are envisioned. MD, MBBS candidates with PhDs are welcome.
All candidates for the positions above must hold a doctoral degree and experience related to one of the fields cited above. He/she should have a demonstrated track-record of practice, teaching and/or research. A solid record of professional practical experience and established record in attracting funded research and scholarship is highly desirable.
Position is open until filled. The appointment will ideally start Fall 2017.
