Posting Summary:
The Cliffe lab in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Cancer Biology is seeking a Laboratory Technician level 2 to work on projects investigating Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) latency in neurons, starting May 2017. The technician will work closely with the PI to use virology, molecular biology and cell biology techniques to study HSV latency in primary and differentiated neurons. Research activities will include, but not be limited to, propagating and titrating virus stocks, routine tissue culture, isolation of primary neurons from mice, general molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid isolation, RT-PCR), chromatin-immunoprecipitation, Western blotting and immunofluorescence.

The technician will also be responsible for laboratory maintenance. This includes training of other personnel, maintaining mouse colonies, ordering supplies, preparing stock solutions, organizing and maintaining virus stocks and assisting the PI with environmental health and safety compliance.

The successful candidate must have a B.S. degree in biology, or a related field, and at least 1 year experience in a research laboratory. Additional requirements include attention to detail in experimental work and record keeping, ability to handle multiple assignments, self-motivation and eagerness to acquire new skills. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in Virology and/or Molecular Biology and experience with tissue culture techniques.

This position is restricted and contingent upon the continuation of funding.
