Ithaca College (IC) in Ithaca, New York, seeks a visionary leader to be its inaugural Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer (CIDO). The CIDO will lead and develop a comprehensive strategic plan for diversity and inclusive excellence and will serve as a key member and advisor of the President's Cabinet. The CIDO will be a proactive and relentless collaborator in the development and implementation of organizational strategies focused on ensuring equity, inclusion, and respect at the College. The CIDO will be a key partner to Ithaca College's vice president's: General Counsel and Senior Vice President; Provost and VP of Educational Affairs; CHRO and VP of Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion; CFO and VP of Finance and Administration, VP of Advancement; and VP of Enrollment Management and will report administratively to the Provost and CHRO.
The CIDO will galvanize the energy that exists among students, staff, faculty, external constituencies, and the IC Board of Trustees into a culture committed to achieving inclusive excellence and cultural proficiency. The CIDO will seek out and create opportunities to advocate for the advancement of a diverse, inclusive, and equitable work and learning environment. The CIDO will diligently promote such foundational institutional values as empowerment, creativity, respect, and service. He/she will provide leadership in the development and delivery of programs, initiatives, and services that will enhance student academic achievement and faculty and staff engagement; monitor, evaluate, and ensure college-wide progress and impact of the diversity and inclusion initiatives through on-going assessment of the campus climate; and collaborate with others in the leadership to improve the climate by promoting positive community relations.
The Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer will be the first permanent position of its kind at Ithaca College. An interim Chief Diversity Officer, Dr. Roger (Doc) Richardson, has been in the position since the fall of 2015 and will be an important partner and valuable resource to the CIDO as IC continues to strive for a more inclusive environment. The CIDO will join IC at a time when the energy and commitment towards achieving an inclusive environment among students, faculty, staff, leadership, and the Board is at an all-time high. The CIDO will sit on the President's cabinet as the institution's primary leader, catalyst, and partner in advancing inclusion and diversity initiatives. The CIDO will report administratively to the Provost and CHRO.
The CIDO and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion will provide the overarching strategy and vision for diversity and inclusion efforts at IC. The office will be the hub for communicating a comprehensive plan for diversity and inclusion programming and policies. The CIDO will be a tireless supporter, collaborator, convener, and educator to the multitude of distributed groups who are advancing IC toward its inclusive excellence objectives.
The CIDO and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion will maintain a central repository of information on both programming and policy related to IC diversity and inclusion efforts. The CIDO should be one of the most recognizable faces on campus as the work of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion seeks to impact every aspect of campus life.

The successful candidate will need to combine his/her skill in developing strategy with the desire and drive to implement and advance initiatives through completion. The CIDO will need to be skilled at persuasion and leading through influence. Given the work that is already being done at Ithaca College around diversity and inclusion, the successful candidate will need to assess and evaluate how this role and office can assist existing initiatives and partners, add additional value to their work, and leverage their energy for greater impact. Candidates should also have:
At least 10 years of experience as an organizational leader guiding and facilitating large scale diversity, equity, access, and inclusion efforts, preferably at an institution of higher education;
Extensive knowledge of contemporary theory and practice with regard to academic diversity issues, equity and inclusion, multiculturalism, human development, training, and change management;
Strong demonstrated transformational and complex, matrixed leadership skills including inspiring, problem solving, and communications with varying constituencies to champion the vision of IC;
Demonstrated cross-cultural competency, including strong emotional intelligence and the ability to engage, motivate, and build confidence with constituencies that include underrepresented communities;
The ability to research, identify, implement, and measure best practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion;
A proven record in managing change;
The ability to engage with a diverse set of stakeholders and work collaboratively with senior colleagues in developing a common vision and direction;
Strong administrative ability to articulate and realize concrete measures for implementing the strategic vision, and operationalizing this plan;
Excellent oral and written communication skills, a collaborative communication style, and the proven ability to work with sensitive and confidential information;
Demonstrated experience as a mediator with well-developed conflict resolution skills;
Track record of an entrepreneurial and creative approach to program development and the establishment of dynamic relationships with students, faculty, university staff, alumni, board members, and community leaders;
Graduate degree required; An earned doctorate and extensive academic and administrative experience at a college or university is preferred.
