Posting Summary:
The Department of Biology at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for Postdoctoral Research Associates. Candidates will contribute to on-going studies of development, genetics, regeneration and evolution of pigmentation using zebrafish and related species.

Pigment cells and pigment pattern have proven themselves to be especially tractable model systems for answering a diverse array of questions at the forefront of modern biology. This research program is highly integrative with interests and efforts related to pigmentation at several levels of biological organization including genes and molecules, cells and tissues, and population and species.

Specific goals for these positions will include studies of: pigment cell regeneration during wound healing; roles for thyroid hormone in pigment cell morphogenesis and differentiation; mechanisms of pigment cell patterning in in zebrafish; and evolution of pigment pattern and cell lineage diversification.

The candidate must have a PhD in biology or related field by the appointment start date. One or more years of experience in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, genomics, or evolutionary biology at PhD level is required. Productivity documented with peer-reviewed first author publications is required. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. Experience in at least one of the following is preferred but not required: developmental genetic analysis of a biomedical model organism, analyses of pigmentation development or genetics, genomic methods and bioinformatics.
