This position develops partnerships within the Peoria School District 150 and with the university's community partner(s) to design and implement an immersive co-curricular model for pre-service teachers. The Peoria Teacher Education Pipeline is grounded in social justice and works to cultivate and sustain innovative, resilient, and effective educators for urban schools and their communities. Among other things, the incumbent will do the following: Develop and implement strategies for the recruitment of Illinois State University students to PSD 150, particularly in the high need area of Special Education. Develop programs that provide support for pre-service teachers from ISU acculturating to PSD 150 and working in community-based, service-learning contexts. Develop and implement co-curricular mentoring, guidance, and residential supports for pre-service teachers. Set up and deliver relevant seminars and service learning opportunities. Develop and launch the STEP-UP summer Fellowship program. All efforts should be undertaken while developing and nurturing partnerships with PSD 150 teachers and administration, community organizations, parents, and students.
This is a non-continuous grant-funded position. Initial appointment is through the conclusion of the grant year which ends Sep 30, 2017. Subsequent one year appointments are possible.
1. Master's in Education, with experience in Special Education
2. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.
1. Terminal degree in Education (Ed.D., Ph.D.)
2. Experience working with Peoria Public Schools; large urban districts; and community-based organizations.
3. Resident of Peoria
