The University of Kentucky (UK) College of Medicine seeks a dynamic academic and clinically driven innovative leader to serve as its next Chair for the Department of Psychiatry. This is a unique opportunity for a new chair to build upon a strong and diverse foundation to substantially impact the psychiatric and behavioral health challenges facing the Commonwealth of Kentucky and in particular the Appalachian regions of Southern and Eastern Kentucky.

The Department of Psychiatry provides a full range of clinical services for adults and adolescents across a number of inpatient and outpatient settings including UK Chandler Hospital and Kentucky Children's Hospital, UK Good Samaritan Hospital, the UK Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic and the Lexington Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The Department also provides the clinical care for the newly built psychiatric facility, Eastern State Hospital, which is managed by UK HealthCare, and has affiliations with other state juvenile and adult agencies. The Department currently has 43 faculty and offers residency programs in Adult Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and the Triple Board program in Adult Psychiatry-Child & Adolescent Psychiatry-Pediatrics. Research in the Department is highly collaborative, with strengths in substance abuse treatment and prevention.

Founded in 1960, the UK College of Medicine (UKCOM) produces highly qualified, caring physicians and the next generation of biomedical scientists to serve the people of Kentucky and the nation. Grants and contracts in UKCOM reached over $100 million last year, including nearly $80 million in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. The College is one of six health-related colleges at the University (Dentistry, Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health) and is located on UK's main campus in Lexington, KY.

Reporting to the Dean of UK College of Medicine, Robert S. DiPaola, M.D., the Chair serves as the chief academic and administrative officer for the department. The Chair will have the opportunity to significantly enhance the academic and research missions of the department, to build upon its clinical services and further its partnerships within UK Healthcare, the University, and with numerous external partners. The successful candidate will demonstrate broad progressive administrative leadership experience in an integrated academic medical center environment; and possess national recognition for achievement in research, educational and clinical pursuits that would warrant appointment as a full professor. Candidates should also have a proven track record of collaboration and program building. Those with an expertise in addiction psychiatry and medicine would potentially fit well with the future trajectory of the department, the College of Medicine, and UK HealthCare.

The executive search firm of Witt/Kieffer has been selected to recruit for this position. To be considered, you must complete the UK application AND contact Jeff Schroetlin, Dr. Chris Colenda, and Karen Otto at UKPsychiatry@wittkieffer.com; phone 630-575-6972.
