Under the supervision of the Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports and Special Events is responsible for direct oversight of the intramural sports programs and recreation center special events at the Rowan University Glassboro Campus.

Job Description

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

  • Direct, develop, plan, coordinate, market, and assess over 45 intramural team sports, individual/dual sports and special events
  • Oversee intramural sports inventory, purchases and budgeting
  • Create and update intramural sports imleagues pages, intramural web pages and social media
  • Enforce, evaluate and revise policies, procedures, rules and regulations for all intramural sports
  • Develop administrative forms, promotional flyers, assessment/surveys, training manuals and presentations for intramural sports
  • Create and manage paperless reports with iPads and Verizon Jetpack technology
  • Hire, train, develop, schedule, supervise and evaluate approximately 30 student program coordinators, supervisors, officials and scorekeepers to staff a comprehensive and professional intramural program
  • Supervise the Graduate Coordinator of Intramural Sports and Sports Clubs providing leadership, mentorship and evaluation to prepare for a career in collegiate recreation
  • Utilize SubItUp employee software to manage student time and attendance, shift scheduling and payroll verification
  • Develop high - level officials training utilizing innovative technological programs, videos, training manuals, tests and staying abreast of industry officiating standards (NFHS, NIRSA, ASA, etc.)
  • Encourage student officials to participate and represent the university at state, regional and national sport tournaments
  • Coordinate proactive risk management practices for all indoor and outdoor intramural sports offerings and communicate to staff necessary emergency action plans, incident/injury response protocols and best practices for managing unsporting conduct of participants/fans
  • Communicate with informal recreation and sports clubs departments about indoor and outdoor space usage for intramural sports and special events through coordination of 25live university scheduling software
  • Directly supervise coordination of campus recreation signature special events including Welcome Week Late Night at the Rec, NE Regional Dodgeball Tournament and Family Weekend Black Jack Walk
  • Coordinate and oversee all collaborative co-sponsored programs including Night Bright Color Run, 5K Runs benefiting charities, Cooper Medical School Challenge Cup, Student Life Day, National Women & Girl in Sports Day, Rec Around the World, Gaming/Card Tournaments and Homecoming Battleship
  • Create and implement new special events that would appeal to students and the university community
  • Provide satisfaction surveys, event reports and assessment for intramural sports and special events
  • Advise student government organization Rowan Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (RIRSA) to promote campus recreation events and student development opportunities
  • Assist with all departmental initiatives including but not limited to student staff development, all staff training, strategic planning, student learning outcomes development and assessment and action plans


Requirements

Master’s Degree

Two (2) years professional experience in recreational sports

American Red Cross CPR/1st Aid/AED Certification or willingness to obtain prior to employment

Officiating experience and demonstrated knowledge in high school and NIRSA sport rules

Prior experience supervising staff and conducting training sessions

Variable work schedule, which includes late evenings and weekends

Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Programs and Google Drive Programs

The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for and skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds

Effective oral and written communication skills

Valid Driver’s License

Ability to lift 25 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Recreation, Student Personnel, Sports Management or related education

Three (3) or more years experience in collegiate intramural sports programming

Registered as a high School or college sports official

Active membership in NIRSA – Leaders of Collegiate Recreation

Registry of Collegiate Recreational Professionals (RCRP) or Certified Recreational Sports Specialist (CRSS)

American Red Cross CPR/1st Aid/AED Instructor Certification
