ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/PROFESSOR OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (ME Program Lead)

Job Summary
Angelo State University is seeking a dynamic and energetic person to lead the development of a mechanical engineering program within the David L. Hirschfeld Department of Engineering. We are an Hispanic Serving Institution and member of the Texas Tech University System. The department currently offers a civil engineering program leading to a BSCE. The program is in its second year and currently has 125 majors. Our first graduating class is expected in spring 2018 and we plan to seek ABET accreditation for the civil engineering program in fall 2018. We desire to establish a mechanical engineering program with a goal of graduating our first class in fall 2020 and seek ABET accreditation the following fall.

Duties
1. Develop and administer a mechanical engineering curriculum compatible with ABET accreditation requirements and existing department programs
2. Recruit a diverse and innovative teaching faculty needed to staff the mechanical engineering program
3. Establish the program assessment necessary to achieve ABET accreditation
4. Supervise the outfitting and equipping of mechanical engineering laboratories
5. Teach mechanical engineering courses
6. Advise undergraduate students
7. Develop a program of scholarly activities consistent with the candidate's interests and university objectives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of mechanical engineering curriculum
2. Knowledge ABET assessment process and ABET mechanical engineering program criteria
3. Skill in recruiting and hiring diverse and innovative teaching faculty
4. Skill in determining mechanical engineering laboratory requirements, purchasing, deploying and maintaining laboratory equipment
5. Ability to teach classes in mechanical engineering
6. Ability to document program and institutional assessment data and maintain satisfactory progress toward goals

Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience or potential in academic administration
- Distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service sufficient for appointment as a tenured faculty member at the associate or full professor level

Preferred Qualifications:
- Registration as a Professional Engineer
- Experience in ABET accreditation process
- Experience in helping an engineering program grow
- Experience in helping an organization increase its diversity and representation of under represented groups
- Experience in grant writing and administration
