Duties: The Assistant Director of Penn's Program on Opinion Research and Election Studies (PORES) in the School of Arts and Sciences, Department of Political Science has significant responsibilities in several areas of the Program. The primary responsibility is to serve as the administrative director of the Program, which includes co-supervising research projects of the PORES research fellows which includes administering and overseeing the summer and academic year undergraduate fellowships, holding a key role in planning and coordinating the public events that the program runs; among the tasks associated with the public events are securing speakers, reserving and preparing the venue, publicity and attending the events. In addition, the Assistant Director is responsible for helping coordinating/managing joint research projects between Penn and NBC News, maintaining the Program webpage, and assisting in grant preparation for program initiatives that have the potential for external support. The position also requires work such as accurately preparing and filing budget reports, assisting with needs related to computers, software and/or data, and managing student research assistants.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree and 2-3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. This position requires an independent, hard-working, self-motivated, creative thinker, able and willing to work with minimal day-to-day direction. Good writing and computer skills are essential. Close attention to detail and procedures related to expense and budget reports is required. Candidates should have a strong academic record and commitment to quality in all aspects of the job, as well as a willingness to prioritize administrative tasks as part of their daily responsibilities. Experience managing research projects or academic programs preferred. Experience in public relations, marketing, or project management also preferred.
